The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Global Awareness-raising Campaign on Laundry Detergent Capsules (16 to 23 March 2015) aims to inform of the risks posed by a product that is present in growing number of households worldwide: laundry detergent capsules (or packets). These products can be attractive to children and can pose serious dangers if not handled and stored safely.

Medical tourism

Like other countries, Latvia also has health care providers offering health care services to medical tourists. One of the requirements for medical tourism service providers is registration in the Registry of Medical Institutions. Such registration ensures that medical institution is working in compliance with legislation of the Republic of Latvia and is duly supervised by the Health Inspectorate.

Agreed action from EU Member States on the status of general purpose automatic pipettes and pipette tips

A corrective action concerning the status of automatic pipettes and pipette tips for general laboratory use has been agreed within the Conformity and Enforcement (COEN) group, in order to have a harmonised European implementation of the provisions of the Directive 98/79/EC.

The Health Inspectorate of the Republic of Latvia is the Competent Authority in Latvia to which the serious undesirable effects (SUEs) of cosmetics should be notified.
 
As the Cosmetics Regulation foresees an uniform approach to the communication of SUEs, the harmonized notification form, developed by the Commission ‘SUE form A’ (available on http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/sectors/cosmetics/documents/guidelines/sue_en.htm)   should be filled inorder to transmit the information to the Competent Authority.
